Ammunition and weapons testing
Explosives, ammunition and ammunition packages test site
The test site has been accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute to ČSN EN ISO/EIC 17025 and performs chemical analyses and testing of all explosive materials for the Army of the Czech Republic or explosives R&D projects of civilian organizations. The test site carries out testing to STANAG 4117, 4147, 4443, 4487, 4488, 4489, 4490, 4491, 4506, 4507, 4515, 4525, 4527, 4540, 4541, 4556, 4620, 4170, 4123).
- chemical analyses of unknown samples of ammunition
- quality testing of in-service explosives
- environmental analysis of explosives and heavy metals
- stability testing of explosive materials
- mechanical and thermo mechanical testing
- predictions of explosives service life
- assessment of possible extension of service life of ammunition and missiles
- sensitivity testing of explosives to external stimuli
- explosives performance testing
- evaluation of explosion effects & explosion investigations
Small arms & bullet resistant materials test site
The test site provides efficiency tests of ballistic protection systems and a wide range of bullet-proof materials. In addition to that it performs testing of small calibre weapons and ammunition to determine their basic characteristics. The special tests of rail vehicle windshields or protective shields of working machines form an integral part of the test site’s activities. We also offer assessment, R&D and expert’s activities. The test site has been accredited to ČSN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005.
Since 2006 the test site collaborates with the Czech MoD on the procurement project for pistols, submachine guns and machine guns to the requirement of the Army of the Czech Republic (marketing & feasibility studies).
Ballistic measurements test site
The test site performs measurements of external & internal ballistics and bore scoring.
The external ballistics measurements are performed by means of two WEIBEL ballistic radars operating on the Doppler effect. The equipment is designed to measure parameters of projectiles with or without tracer, mortar bombs and artillery projectiles, guided and unguided rocket assisted missiles. The range of velocity measurement is from 50 to 3000 m/s, calibre from 4.5 mm.
The piezo-sensors and charge amplifiers based system is designed for measuring internal ballistics parameters. Two-channel measurements may be performed up to maximum pressure of 10 000 bar.
The BOR-CAP instrument is designed to measure bore scoring of calibres from 20 mm to 155 mm and to inspect the bore area by means of a miniature Panasonic camera.
National authority for explosives, ammunition and weapons
By the Memorandum of association ref No. 50957-69/2005/DP-2697 of 6 May 2005 issued by the Czech MoD, VOP-026 Šternberk, s. p. has been established, inter alia, “to exercise the institute of national authorities to ensure the process of introduction of Standardization Agreements (STANAG) and to work with national authorities of other NATO member states upon authorization“.
We have established and operate, within our VTÚVM Slavičín site, an accredited national authority test site for classification of explosives, ammunition and ammunition packages to STANAG 4123. The VTÚVM Slavičín site is registered as a national authority for:
- Fuzing systems (STANAG 4187).
